Magic Tips
I am going to post some magic tips in this thread that come to me as I'm going along.
The first one concerns a love potion that went wrong, and is a lesson on "magic utilization" ...

Here is the first "Magic Tip":
Magic Utilization - When Spells Go Wrong
Here is an interesting and important story about something that happened the other day. I decided to make a love potion. I got the ingredients, stirred them in the pot, set the pot to boil and reduce - and then promptly got involved in something else and forgot all about it.
When clouds of smoke finally broke through to my awareness, the love potion had turned into crinkled pitch black soot in the bottom of the pan!
Oh NO!
Disaster!!
Wasn't it meant to be?
Was this all I would ever get instead of love, black burned on remnants?!
Was this a sign?!!
This is where one has to stop, take a deep breath and say, "Alright. Now it's time to call UTILIZATION into play!"
Utilization is the art of taking ANYTHING AT ALL and make it BECOME whatever it is that you want it to become.
That's a big part of magic, to take malleable reality and shape it to your WILL.
So I looked at the pot and said, "Fine. That's THE OLD LOVE."
"That's all the old stuff that happened to me, all the nasty stuff, all the wrong ideas, the things that went wrong in the past - that is what that is. "
"I am going to take all that old nonsense and scrub the pan clean, and AS I SCRUB THE PAN CLEAN, I CREATE A CLEAN SLATE WITHIN MYSELF, a fresh start, and a new form of love altogether can now come to me."
So I set to scrubbing out the pan and as I did it, I kept chanting, "Clear up the old, let the new unfold ..."
This was a very meditative and magical activity which I enjoyed immensely and I could feel all sorts of things falling away around me, as the pan become bright shiny silver once more.
When it was all perfectly clean, I put it back on the stove and started again. This time, all worked perfectly well and the second, NEW love potion was actually a whole lot better than the first attempt. I am extremely pleased with the potion and the outcome of it all.
Remember this story when it seems that a spell's gone wrong or you've made a mess, made a mistake, didn't get it right, and all those doubts come creeping or crashing in - THAT'S when a real magician stands firm in mind, and spirit, and in outcome, and takes the situation and turns it to their advantage.
Who knows, perhaps it was "meant to be".
Perhaps the potion couldn't work whilst I was still having all this "stuff" burned into my systems.
Perhaps it was just carelessness, which isn't good in magic either.
But it doesn't matter how we got there, in the end we did, I did and it was a fine lesson in magic on many levels that I am happy to share with you today.

How To Raise Power For Magic
Before you speak a spell or touch anything, you need to be in the right state
- you should be tingling with power.
This is easiest done in the following way:
1. Breathe deeply, through your nose as well as through your mouth.
2. Stand comfortably and get a sense of energy flowing into your through
your feet, coming in with your breath, pouring into you from above.
3. Focus your mind on your power to do magic. Say to yourself and think in
your mind: "My power" with every breath.
4. If you can feel any physical signs such as pains and pressures in your
body or head as you do this, take some time to breathe into those ereas and make
those disturbances flow away. Concentrate only on your power to do magic.
5. When you are tingling all over, bright aware and bursting with energy,
feeling electric, you're ready to go.
It gets better and faster with practise; if you don't do this, your spells
won't run on full power.

Streamlining Spells
The other night, I decided to do a spell for something I was quite serious
about and that was close to my heart and I noticed something interesting.
If one wants something very much, there can be a propensity to try and "pile
on the magic" - adding more ingredients, more verses to the spell, more Gods,
more angels, 6 drops of something instead of the 3 it says in the recipe to
"make it stronger".
If you ever find yourself doing that, STOP.
Stop, take a deep breath and step back. You are being too involved, too
emotional, too desperate and chances are, you are going to ruin the spell.
A spell should be like an arrow - straight and true, and powerfully rushing
off in the right direction, elegant and aligned absolutely.
In this simile, it helps if your arrow is straight rather than crooked; made
of excellent wood and has high quality feathers to stabilise its flight.
But - if you start hanging bells and whistles from your arrow, instead of
speeding it up, it will just fall flat to the ground.
A spell works best when it has the minimum of ingredients, and they are all
in total harmony, in perfect alignment.
And often, there may even be merit in *removing* components from the spell to
make it stronger. It's like at a party when dozens of people are talking all at
the same time, and all you get is noise. Or when the record producer doesn't
trust in the singer and adds so many violins, synths, drums, special effects and
other random instruments that the song and singer gets lost completely - that's
known as the record being "over produced".
So take a look at your spells and pare them down to the essentials. Or have a
test with a spell or two and run it repeatedly, leaving out one component at a
time to find out how it feels, how it works, what happens.
A single candle and a heartfelt prayer can be much, much more effective than
a three day ritual - just think about how many things can go wrong!
This is a general principle of the universe. There is a sweet spot where
everything works PERFECTLY. You add anything beyond that, and it works less and
less, until it ceases working altogether. So there may be some merit in
remembering this, watching our human propensity to try and "add, add, add" to
make things more powerful, and in general, going for elegant and streamlined
spells that really hit the mark.

Don't Look Back
This is an important tip, I just mentioned this to someone enquiring about problems with spells:
I also believe that after the spell is over, one shouldn't "look over
one's shoulder" all the time because I think that this can
disturb/destroy the spell. In essence, put all thoughts about whatever
it was you did the spell for out of your mind because that's now with
the Powers That Be and no longer your concern once the spell is cast.
When I first started to grow things from seed, I used to destroy the
plants and the seedlings by constantly digging around in the soil to see
if they'd germinated yet. I used to nag them, often trying to pull the
seedpods off and ripping the little leaves off in the process and
transplant them way too early, probably out of a lack of patience and
stress.
I think magic can be like that, once the spell is cast, you need to
leave it for a while, and sometimes it takes a week or two for the first
little shoots to appear; sometimes it takes a couple of months before
you get to harvest your first tomato in that way, if you know what I
mean.
Cast the spell and don't look back - at least for a time that you might want to stipulate up front. If you have a diary, you can make an entry before casting the spell as to when you want to check in on it.
Get A Sign
This is an interesting thing to do which I rather like: you can ask for a sign to be given to know the
spell has been received within 3 days.
Just add on to the spell:
Powers That Be
Let Me See
A sign you heard me
Before day three.
... or words to that effect. I'd place that at the beginning of the
ritual so that the final power evocation (the words of the spell) remain
intact and correct.
Guardian Angels and Guardian Spirits
A good, ongoing, working relationship with your guardian angel or guardian
spirit is OF THE ESSENCE if you want help, work magic, or need powerful
protection.
I am constantly surprised at people who want to do magic without such support,
and others who should know better who just put in few requests with their
guardians during a ritual and otherwise totally ignore them!
Make your guardian a part of your life. Talk to them. Tell them about your
problems. Ask them about their dimensions. Have them be around you and consult
them often - take them shopping and ask their advice on what vegetables you
should buy, as basic as that. Draw a picture of them and put it in your wallet.
Buy them a house plant and put it on your window sill to help you remember and
make them a part of your home. Let them show you a piece of jewellry that can be
your friendship bracelet so you always know you have a friend when you wear it.
There are countless ways to make a much more intimate, WORKING relationship with
your guardian.
And really, do NOT wait until someone casts a spell on you or you get sick or
your incarnation goes tits up.
When or if that time comes, you want a good relationship with your guardian
ALREADY ESTABLISHED. You want them to be there, ready to go, full power, strong
energy flow between them and you, without the need of going into lengthy rituals
to even try and get their attention.
Guardians can do such a lot for you in every way - IF you take the time and
trouble to really build a good relationship with them. And that means inviting
them into your home and life, and letting them be a part of it. Then they really
get to know you, get to find out how tough it still is for us down here, and
they can get involved and help you out.
Don't delay.
Do something TODAY to get closer to your guardian.
It's one of the most important things, if not THE most important thing you can
do in magic.
